Being a celebrity in today’s world means dealing with crazy fans and even crazier photographers and journalists that stalk every celebrity worth nothing. Once a celebrity has their first big break, they can kiss their privacy good bye. Once a person obtains the title of celebrity, they will never again be able to go out for a hamburger or pizza without being asked for an autograph or picture. So if lack of privacy and total inconvenience is so awful, why is society so fascinated with celebrities?

In today’s world especially in America where there has never been royalty, the celebrity is the closest thing to royalty there is. Sixty years ago in “old Hollywood”, a celebrity was treated like royalty. The celebrities were extremely glamorous and handsome and per the usual contract back then, all celebrities were required to look glamorous and handsome even if they were going to the grocery store. Celebrities have the opportunity to wear clothes that most people could only dream about. During the awards season, a celebrity is bombarded with designers seeking to have their outfit on the runway. Jewelers even take part in the circus like atmosphere by loaning celebrities unbelievable pieces of jewelry.

Aside from the glamorous side of being a celebrity there are other reasons why people are so intrigued by their favorite celebrity? And that’s because it looks like a lot of fun. Celebrities make more money in one contract deal than most people will make in their lifetime. Some people cannot even dream about the amount of money a celebrity will make. With money comes opportunity. A celebrity can jet off to Paris or Hawaii on just a whim. They can take their children Disney World without having to break into their savings account. They can afford the medical bills that pile up from a sick child, parent, or spouse. If a car breaks there is no question where the money will come from. The bottom line is when it comes to finances; a celebrity has very few worries. Perhaps a celebrity does have to worry about who they allow into their finances and just like anyone else a celebrity must makes decisions about the right investments, but this pales in comparison to the financial worries of most of their devoted fans.

One might argue that the ordinary people of the world made celebrities who they are and that argument is absolutely correct. Without people going to the movies or buying cds, a celebrity would not be so important. However, one must also remember that celebrities are people too and that they enjoy eating a dinner uninterrupted or taking their child to a park. Most people would not enjoy being constantly interrupted while spending quality time with their child and this should be remembered when criticizing a celebrity.

Glamorous or not and accessible or not celebrities have always been and will remain fascinating to the rest of the world. For those who are not part of the Hollywood scene, a celebrity will hold mystery and intrigue that may never be solved for outsiders. These outsiders will have to rely on the magazines and television stations devoted to celebrities to the inside scoop.
