Father’s day is just around the corner and it is truly a day to reflect on what a father is and has done. To honor your father or husband on Father’s Day is a great tribute to all he is, and in the case of young fathers, all that he will be.

Many choose to spend Father’s day with their father giving presents and or preparing a large meal in order to show their father how much he is valued. Presents given on Father’s day should reflect the personality of the father or represent a special time between the father and child. Sometimes when it comes to deciding on a present, many people experience a slight amount of stress because some fathers are hard to shop for. Many times the answer for these people is a gift card, but gift cards are often viewed as cold, thoughtless gift. However, sometimes gift cards are actually warm and extremely thoughtful gifts, if given with the right intention.

A hobby or pastime would be an excellent place to start the search for a gift. For example, one could give a gift card for Father’s Day to a sporting goods store if the father is a fishing addict or in the case of a fishing addict, a gift card or certificate could be given to a boat rental company. However, gift cards do not have to be limited to favorite pastimes or hobbies; they can also be given on Father’s Day as a way to offer assistance. Perhaps, a father has his eye on a new television or some other gadget that is slightly out of his and his children’s price range. A gift card to a store that carries this desired gadget could be given as an effort to help him save for it. Also, if money is tight a gift card to a local grocery store could be given to help ease the financial hardship for a month or two.

Not all gifts given on Father’s Day must have a monetary value. As we get older, we are limited in the things we can do physically. An older gentleman may have a hard time cutting the grass and performing other household chores. A gift of mowing the lawn for a few weeks or even the whole summer would be an excellent gift and one that would undoubtedly be appreciated. A gift of performing any other household chore that is difficult to do would also be valued.

On Father’s Day, do not forget those that are not biological fathers. Many step-fathers and step-grandfathers often love the children in their lives as if the children were biological. These men would do anything for the children in their lives and would greatly appreciate being acknowledged.

No matter what gift is given on Father’s Day all that really matters is that father’s are remembered. The simple act of sitting on the front porch watching the day go by is enough for some fathers. Fathers often do not expect a lot from their children but often appreciate the simple gesture of a hug and quality time well spent.
